The Ulster Dancing Championship, also known as Oireachtas Rince Uladh 2014, will return to Dundalk this year after a 25 year absence.

The event will take place over two weekends, later this month and again in November.

The event is supported and funded by Louth County Council together with Marshes Shopping Centre who have kindly come on board as main sponsor.

Dundalk Tourism chairperson Sean Farrell welcomed the news and expects it to have huge tourism potential for the area.

“Together with the obvious social and cultural benefits such an event brings to Dundalk, there are of course the economic benefits, with over 5,000 visitors expected over both the June and November weekends.”

Dundalk Tourism Committee, under the auspices of Dundalk Chamber of Commerce have given a commitment to fully support the Ulster Dancing Championships 2014 so as to ensure it is a success.

Mr Farrell said this was an excellent opportunity for Dundalk to showcase the best the town has have to offer.

On behalf of the Dundalk Tourism Committee, Sean also wished to take the opportunity to offer his gratitude to Sinéad Roche of Dundalk BIDS Tourist Office, who worked tirelessly with An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha and who was pivotal in securing Dundalk as the host town for the championship.

Promotional video of Dundalk

The Creative Multimedia department in Dundalk IT have uploaded a new video to its Vimeo channel promoting Dundalk.

The promotional video was made in conjunction with Dundalk Tidy Towns, Dundalk Tourism and Dundalk Town Council by Alvaro Cifuentes Costa, a third year student on the BA in Video & Film Production in DKIT as part of an assessment for his Digital Production & Editing module in December 2012.

While the town has changed slightly since the recording, it’s still a good visual experience of all that Dundalk has to offer and is well worth the three minute watch.
