Dundalk Santa Run to feature on Irish TV tonight

Last Friday night’s Dundalk Santa Run will feature on the ‘Louth County Matters’ programme on Irish TV tonight at 6.30pm.

There will be interviews with organisers and participants as well as a general look at what is happening in the area over the festive period.

Irish TV can be found on Sky channel 191.

It’s finally here, the day you’ve all been waiting for!

No, not Christmas, but the Dundalk Santa Fun Run.

The event, which is aiming to break another world record, gets underway from 6.30pm this evening at the back of the Tesco Extra shopping centre. From there it will make its way to the Market Square.

Also at Tesco tonight will be the Coca Cola truck, which features in the famous advert with the tune ‘Holiday’s are coming’.

The truck is already parked outside Tesco this morning but will be lit up and available for people to check out properly from 4.30pm until 9pm.

People can still get involved in the Santa Run today. The distance is only 1km and you can walk, run or crawl. Registration can be made online at www.dundalk.ie/santa and make sure to collect your race tag and santa suit at the Santa Run HQ at Pulse Pacemaker, Park Street. Registration fee is €10 per Adult and €5 per child.

As a result of the run, a number of roads in the town will be closed between 6pm and 8pm to accommodate it.

These include:

  • Ramparts Road (from Junction with Stapleton Drive to junction with Thomas Street)
  • Thomas Street
  • Dublin Street (from junction with Thomas Street to junction with Park Street)
  • Park Street (from junction with Anne Street to The Demesne)
  • Market Square
  • The Long Walk
  • Griffith Court/Laurels
  • Church Street (from Junction with the Laurels to Clanbrassil Street)
  • Clanbrassil Street

The alternative routes and traffic diversions will be sign posted on site for the various section closures.

Rape Crisis North East appeal for Dundalk Santa Run support

Rape Crisis North East have appealed for those getting involved in next month’s Dundalk Santa Run to consider raising funds for the charity in the build-up to the event on Friday December 5th.

Those hoping to sign up for the Santa Run can do so in the former Pulse Pacemaker shop in Park Street, which is open on the following dates:

  • November 15th & 16th
  • November 22nd & 23rd
  • November 29th & 30th
  • December 1st-4th

After you have registered, if you wish to support Rape Crisis North East you are asked to please contact their office at 042 9339491 and they will issue you with an official sponsorship card.

All proceeds from our sponsorship cards will go to Rape Crisis North East to provide a much needed counselling and support service to the increased number of women, men and teenagers attending the service.

Registration open next weekend for Dundalk Santa Run

The Dundalk Santa Run is back again once again this year and is scheduled to take place on Friday December 5th.

Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, who are running the event to raise funds for the Dundalk Simon Community, are hoping to repeat last year’s feat of breaking a Guinness World Record.

Registration dates have now been posted with those looking to partake able to do so from Saturday week, October 25th.

A special Santa Run shop will be set up in the old Pulse Pacemaker shop in Park Street. It will be open from 10am to 6pm on Saturdays and from 12 noon to 6pm on Sundays.

Registration is just €10 per adult and €5 per child. This allows you to participate and receive a Santa suit.

World Record for Dundalk Santa Run is confirmed

Organisers of last year’s Santa Run in Dundalk have received official confirmation from the Guinness Book of Records that they set a new world record last November for the world’s largest santa run.

The run from the Redemptorist Church to the Market Square required 4,000 participants to break the record with estimates at the time of up to 6,000 taking part.

The event raised over €50,000 with 18 local charities and organisations benefitting including Men’s Sheds, North Louth Hospice, SNAP, Lordship Children’s Respite Centre and SOSAD.

Well done to all concerned.

Dundalk breaks World Record with 6,000 taking part in Santa Run

Dundalk was a sea of red and white tonight as it broke a new world record as around 6,000 took place in the Santa Run from the Redemptorist Church to the Market Square.

The initial figure was thought to be around 5,000 but Dundalk Tourist Office is reporting that the figure is now in or around the 6,000 mark. An exact figure has still to be determined but it comfortably broke the target of 4,000.

Suit collection starts tomorrow for Dundalk Santa Run

Suit collections for the Dundalk Santa Run will commence tomorrow and run until Tuesday November 26th.

The suits for the run can be collected at the Elgee Buildings at Market Square, beside the Talk To Me mobile phone shop.

Dundalk Chamber of Commerce will be aiming to break a Guinness World Record when they hold their annual Santa Fun Run on Friday November 29th.

Over 4,000 participants are needed to break the record, which will be run in aid of five local charities: Lordship Children’s Respite Centre, North Louth Hospice, Men’s Sheds, SNAP and SOSAD.

The event will take place from the Redemptorist Church on St Alphonsus Road to the Demesne and Market Square.

It will also coincide with the start of the Festival of Light and Culture.
