Hamilton first home in Dundalk 10k

dundalk-10k_no-dates_1080xPaddy Hamilton of Slieve Gullion Runners was the convincing winner of last night’s Dundalk 10k.

He finished in a time of 31:31, more than a minute ahead of runner-up Brian McCluskey of North East Runners, who crossed the line in a time of 32:35.

In third place was Glenmore AC’s Shane Toner in a time of 33:10.

Anna-Marie Costello was the first lady home in a time of 39:14, pipping last year’s winner Donna Evans, who finished in 40:11. Karen Costello of Dunleer AC was the third female finisher in a time of 41:10.

In total 549 people entered the race, which started and finished at Dundalk IT. The full list of results can be found here.

Registration is now open for the Dundalk 10k run, which is due to take place on Wednesday April 22nd at 7pm.

The event was launched yesterday in Dundalk IT, who are once again the major sponsor and organiser of the event, which will start and end on the campus.

The main charity once again this year will be Development Perspectives.

Last year Darragh Greene retained the title in a time of 31.10, pipping Gary O’Hanlon and Brian McCloskey to the title.

Donna Evans was the first woman home, with 695 people in total taking part.

Dundalk 10k to be officially launched tomorrow

dundalk-10k_no-dates_1080xThe Dundalk 10k will be officially launched on Wednesday at 11am in Dundalk IT.

This year’s event will take place on Wednesday April 22nd with the college continuing the sponsorship and organisation of the event having taken over the running of it in 2014.

Last year Darragh Greene retained the title in a time of 31.10, pipping Gary O’Hanlon and Brian McCloskey to the title.

Dundalk 10k to take place on April 22nd

dundalk-10k_no-dates_1080xWe will all probably overindulge in some way over the Christmas period but if you want to motivate yourself to get fit in the New Year then what better way than to get into training for the Dundalk 10k.

Organisers have confirmed that the annual road race will be officially launching on January 14th, with the event pencilled in for Wednesday April 22nd.

Earlier this year Dundalk IT were the major sponsor and organiser of the race, which started and ended on the campus.

Darragh Greene winning last year’s Dundalk 10k

Local athlete Darragh Green retained his Dundalk 10k title by winning the race in a time of 31.10 last night.

The Dunleer AC athlete shaved more than two minutes of his winning time from 12 months ago as he pipped Kilkerley man Gary O’Hanlon to first place.

O’Hanlon finished in a time of 32.02, with last year’s runner-up Brian McCloskey of North East Runners in third in a time of 33.23.

Once again the first female home was Donna Evans, who was 32nd overall in a time of 40.35. Donna was also the first female finisher 12 months ago and has now won the race on numerous occasions.

In total 695 people took part in the race, which this year started from Dundalk IT, with over 100 volunteers cheering them on despite the heavy rain.

Dunleer AC’s Darragh Greene claimed yesterday’s Mint Dundalk 10k run with a time of 00:33:26, pipping Brian McCluskey of North East Runners by seven seconds.

The pair were a full two minutes ahead of third place finisher, Paul Smith, who had a time of 00:35:33.

Donna Evans was the first female home in 00:38:07, followed by Susan McDonnell and Louise Kierans.

In total 469 runners took part in the event, which raised money for the Irish Cancer Society.

Meanwhile, Kilkerley man Gary O’Hanlon – who had won the half marathon in Dundalk for the two years previously – followed up his Limerick Marathon success from a week ago by clinching the Kildare Marathon in a time of 2 hours 29 minutes – four minutes faster than his run a week earlier.
