Dundalk RFC travelled to Co Down on Saturday to take on Donaghdee in the All-Ireland Junior Cup and kept up their impressive run of form to run out 12-10 winners in the end.
With a 100% record in the league to date, the Mill Road men entered the game full of confidence and took the lead in the early stages with two well struck penalties from full back Ultan Murphy.
Donaghdee pulled a penalty back, however, before being awarded a penalty try that left them 10-6 ahead at the break.
Playing into the elements in the second half and having lost the influential Paul Meegan to injury, things looked bleak for Dundalk. However, Ene Fa’atau’s side showed tremendous spirit with two further penalties from Murphy putting his side in front with 10 minutes to go.
Dundalk held on for the win in the end, which sets them up nicely for this week’s trip to Lansdowne Road where they will face Wanderers in a top-of-the-table clash.
