Mixed fortunes for local schools in finals

There was mixed fortunes for two local schools in their respective finals at Oriel Park on Wednesday.

Dundalk Grammar School clinched the North East Senior League Division Two title with a 3-1 win over Donabate CC but there was no such luck for De La Salle, who lost the North East Minor League Division One final to Coláiste na hInse, Laytown, on the same day on a 2-1 scoreline.

Congrats to the Grammar boys on a hard-earned success.

Former Dundalk boss Gill appointed number two at Shamrock Rovers

Former Dundalk manager John Gill has signed a one-year contract as assistant manager of Shamrock Rovers.

The Donabate man – who led the Lilywhites back to the Premier Division in 2008 – will act as number two to Trevor Croly in 2014.

Gill has been out of management since being controversially relieved of his job following promotion in 2008, although has acted as assistant to Pete Mahon at St Patrick’s Athletic since then.

Still a popular figure in Oriel Park, Gill will make his return to Dundalk when Shamrock Rovers are visitors to the Carrick Road venue on April 18th.
