Pearse Óg clinched the Louth Senior Hurling League title with a 4-12 to 3-11 victory over Knockbridge in Darver last night.

The sides had gone off level at the break on a scoreline of 2-7 apiece, with Shane Fennell hitting the net twice for Knockbridge.

However, Pearse Óg had enough about them to slowly pull clear in the second half to claim only the third league title in the club’s history and their first in eight years with an inspired display.

Captain Shane Callan collected the trophy afterwards from Co Board chairman Des Halpenny.

Halpenny and Byrne in the running for Louth County Board chairman’s position

Louth crestCurrent Louth GAA secretary Des Halpenny and vice chairman Declan Byrne will battle it out to succeed Padraig O’Connor as chairman of the County Board at next month’s annual convention.

The duo have both been put forward for the role, with St Patrick’s clubman O’Connor having to step down having served five years in the role after succeeding Paddy Oliver.
