Louth Rose Jenny Hanlon made a big splash at this week’s Rose of Tralee Festival, with many outsiders expressing the view that she should have won.

Regardless of that, the Carlingford woman certainly did the county proud by giving one of the most memorable interviews of the festival to host, Daithi Ó Sé – so much so that she, and not the winner, was trending on Twitter.

For those who missed it, the clip of Jenny’s interview is now available on the RTÉ Player and you can view it here.

Jenny might not have won but she made a big impression for the Wee County and we’re sure to hear plenty more of her in the weeks, months and years to come.

Louth will have a representative in this year’s Rose of Tralee International Festival in August.

Louth Rose Jenny Hanlon last night qualified for the finals after impressing at the regional finals in Portlaoise when put to the test by show host Daithi Ó Sé.

The 19-year-old, from Carlingford, is the first Louth Rose since Patricia Marmion in 2012 to reach the finals. No Louth Rose has ever won the contest.

Maxi and Keenan to appear on RTÉ today

After their clip together went viral at the weekend, local taxi driver Mark ‘Maxi’ Kavanagh and singer/songwriter David Keenan are set to appear together on RTÉ television today.

The pair will be on the Today show with Maura Dirrane and Daithí Ó Sé from 4.30pm.

Talk of the Town was delighted to play a part in making this happen having passed on contact details to the national broadcaster for Maxi.

David is expected to perform his hit song ‘El Paso’ on the show and here’s hoping it’s the start of bigger and better things to come from him.

Tune in at 4.30pm on RTÉ One or catch up later on the RTÉ Player.
