Clanbrassil Street has suffered yet another retail blow with the news that Declan’s Shop is set to close on New Year’s Eve.

A closing down sale was launched at the store at 55 Clanbrassil Street at the weekend as staff broke the news of the impending closure on Facebook.

Declan’s was run by Katrina Curran and has been established in Clanbrassil Street since 1992.

Writing on Facebook, Katrina said: “Sad news today. While we did our best to weather the storm of these bad economic times, we are not able to any more. The supermarkets will be happy as we will no longer be a thorn in their sides.”

The closure of Declan’s comes just weeks after another long-term tenant on the street, Coleman’s Butchers, opted to relocate to the Castletown Road.

Clanbrassil Street has suffered yet another blow after one of the longest-running shops on the streets closed last week.

Coleman’s Butchers, which was established in 1946, has closed their store at 44 Clanbrassil Street and relocated to the Castletown Road, opposite Fagan’s pub.

The store, which is run by Eamonn Coleman who grew up above the store and took it over from his father, featured in an RTÉ documentary in recent years called the Street Where You Live.
