Local councillor Oliver Morgan has issued an appeal to members of the public not to use social media to advertise they are away from home over the Christmas period.

His appeal comes following a spate of recent break-ins, including two in the Seafield Lawns area of the town yesterday.

Cllr Morgan feels that potential burglars are being assisted in their activities by people advertising when they are not at home and issued the following appeal via his Facebook page: “In Dundalk there has been an awful lot of break-ins and burglaries lately and it will probably get worse over Christmas.

“Can I suggest that you don’t check in places or say when you are away from home? Also it’s probably best not to post any holiday photos until you return home. Another idea would be not to accept event invitations.

“Facebook is a great place but it can also be used a weapon in a negative fashion against its users. Please be vigilant and stay safe,” he said.

Dumping in Doolargy Avenue

Councillor Oliver Morgan has been raising the issue of dumping in Muirhevnamor a lot recently and to give people an insight into the conditions that people in the area are having to live in, he posted the above picture of the scene in Doolargy Avenue to his Facebook page today.

Cllr Morgan and the residents of the area would no doubt appreciate that anyone with information on who is responsible for such dumping makes contact with the relevant authorities.

Who’s the boss?

Local councillor Oliver Morgan has taken to Facebook to vent his frustration at the management of Dundalk Town Council.

At last night’s May monthly meeting in the Town Hall, Cllr Morgan tried to raise questions querying where the public’s money was being spent. However, instead of answers he received a telling off from Town Clerk Frank Pentony, who claims he was not answerable to the councillors.

Now, I’m not entirely sure what the content of Cllr Morgan’s questions were but surely it is in all of our interests that the council be scrutinised over what they are spending, particularly now at a time when the budget is so tight.

Maybe if there had been a few more questions asked in years gone by, we wouldn’t be in the sort of mess that we’re in financially at the minute.
