Tiarnan’s Twitter spat

Dundalk’s Tiarnan Mulvenna shows the scars of the tackle from Shelbourne’s Brian Shortall that resulted in the latter being sent off in last night’s match in Oriel Park.

Shortall didn’t take Mulvenna’s Twitter comments too well but it was the Muirhevnamor man who had the last laugh after his 87th minute goal won Dundalk the game.

TIARNAN Mulvenna was Dundalk’s hero at Oriel Park last night after coming off the bench to hit an 87th minute winner against 10 man Shelbourne.

The Muirhevnamor man’s introduction was a pivotal moment in a game in which Stephen Kenny’s looked like dropping points for a long period.

After frustrating Dundalk with some resolute defending for much of the game, bottom-of-the-table Shels were reduced to 10 men on 78 minutes when centre back Brian Shortall was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Mulvenna.

Dundalk then made full use of the man advantage with captain Stephen O’Donnell slipping Mulvenna in on goal in the 87th minute and the substitute made no mistake as he drilled through the legs of goalkeeper Ger Hanley to help the Lilywhites claim their first back to back home wins since October 2010.
