Brentford are the latest side to be linked with a move for Dundalk midfielder Richie Towell.

Reports from England have revealed that the newly-promoted Championship outfit sent assistant manager David Weir to watch the 22-year-old midfielder in the last few days.

It is understood that Weir – a former Everton and Rangers defender – was in Dalymount Park last Friday to monitor Towell.

He won’t have been disappointed either as the former Celtic and Hibs star hit a stunning 25-yard strike early in the second half to help Dundalk to a 2-0 victory over Bohemians.

Charlton, Barnsley and Leeds Utd were among the clubs said to be also interested in Towell in recent months.

Brentford, who play in the London borough of Hounslow, recently finished as runners-up in League One with manager Mark Warburton looking to strengthen the squad at Griffin Park ahead of their Championship campaign in August.
