Dundalk Fire Service stoned while dealing with bonfires

Dundalk Fire Service were stoned as they attempted to deal with bonfires in a number of areas of the town last night.

Stones were thrown at the fire service as they attempted to tackle fires from spreading to neighbouring houses.

In one incident a Garda car was also stoned.

This is not the first time in recent years that the fire service have come under attack during the course of their duties and, as before, the actions of those responsible is to to be condemned.

It is understood youngsters as young as 11 and 12 were responsible for the incidents.

A large bonfire in Saltown on the Bellewsbridge Road is causing a large smoke plume to fill the skies of Dundalk at present.

The fire is burning rapidly but thankfully no property has as yet been affected by it.

Dundalk Fire Service have been notified about it.
