Bike it, hike it, walk it open day in Dundalk this Saturday

artwork3

This Saturday some of Dundalk’s outdoor pursuit clubs will come together to host an open day in the Crowne Plaza Hotel from 2pm to 6pm.

The event represents an opportunity for anyone with an interest in running, walking, triathlons or cycling (leisure, BMX, mountain biking or road racing) to come along and get some more info on joining and find out about some of the great events taking place locally.

Cuchulainn Cycling Club, The Wee Binnions Walking Club, Setanta Triahlon Club and Blackrock AC will all be represented, and will be able to answer any questions people may have that wish to take the first steps towards getting more active. Each of these clubs will have members on hand who are there to pass on their knowledge and experience in getting started in these sports.

More than 200 local athletes take part in Run in the Dark

-1

More than 200 local athletes took part in the second annual Mark Pollack Run in the Dark last week.

Blackrock AC first competed in the charity run last year with 70 people taking part and raising over €600 in the process. The interest in the event within the club was such that this year the club decided to collaborate with the North East Runners and organised the event to start at St Helena’s Park.

On the night over 200 runners took part choosing to run either a 5km loop or a 10km loop, with each athlete donating at least €5 or €10 depending on how far they were running.

A lot of those taking part were first time runners or were running distances longer than they had ever run before. It was a great social run with everyone enjoying themselves, especially since these athletes normally only meet in a competitive environment.

Thanks to Aidan Stewart for the picture.
