Local singer/songwriter David Keenan yesterday put pen to paper on a record deal with Vilkas Records

The Dundalk-based music label have snapped up Keenan on the back of his recent success with his track ‘El Paso’, which went viral across the world after his performance of the song in the local Maxi Taxi, run by Mark Kavanagh

Keenan has shown his talent with a superb follow up track, The Friary, and we are sure to hear plenty more about him in the months ahead.

Other local artists on the label include Pete Johnson, Gugs and Damien McKenna.

Commenting on the deal, the label said: “Vilkas Records would like to welcome rising artist David Keenan to the label.

“We look forward to working with David in developing his music career.”

Car sales in Louth up 36.2% last month

The top 10 selling makes and models of cars sold in Louth last month

In total there were 538 new 141 registrations in January, compared with 395 the year before.

While car sales are up nationwide, the increase is well above the national average of 32.6%.

Of the cars sold last month, 397 were diesel – more than the sum total of sales in January 2013 – while 136 were petrol. There were also four hybrids sold and one dual-fuel car.

Ford was the most popular model last month with 76 sales, followed by Toyota (66) and Volkswagen (60).

The manufacturers who recorded the biggest increase in sales in the last 12 months were Opel (109%), Kia (100%) and Toyota (83.3%).

The biggest selling model was the Ford Focus, which had 30 sales last month – the same figure as in January 2013.

This was followed by the Volkswagen Golf (27), the Ford Fiesta (25) and the Hyundai IX35 (23).

The big winners in terms of sales increases were the Renault Clio (183.3%), the Kia Sportage and the Toyota Corolla (both 157.1%).

Silver was the most popular colour sold with 123 silver cards bought last month. This was followed by black (95), red (89), grey (75), white (65) and blue (50).

In total there were 1,477 new cars sold in Louth last year, with the sales figures for January 2014 meaning that more than a third of that figure has been reached already.
