Thanks to Aidan Stewart for sharing these superb shots of the sea crashing onto the Main Street in Blackrock earlier today.

Thankfully, the floods weren’t as bad as those witnessed last month but it was still enough to close Main Street briefly with Belles Tea Rooms opting to close for the afternoon due to how quiet the area was.

People are reminded that these floods have an impact on local business and are asked to support them if they can at this time.

Dundalk café receives over 300 applications for handful of jobs

The desperation for work in the area has been highlighted by Belles Tea Rooms, who were advertising for a handful of positions recently.

Before Christmas, the Blackrock-based business – run by Mark and Michelle McCumiskey – announced they would be opening a second outlet in Park Street in the New Year.

They recently advertised a number of positions in the local press and online and received a whopping 287 applications as of Friday evening.

Belles hope to get back to applicants in the next few days and, from their point of view, should have no problem filling the various roles advertised. However, it shows how desperate people are for work in the area when so many have applied for jobs in a relatively small business.

Belles Tea Rooms in Blackrock have announced that they will be opening their new extension to the business on Friday May 31st.

The business on Main Street in the village has been open for 18 months and has proven a popular place for local and visitors to Blackrock to take some time out and admire the views while sampling tasty tea, coffee and cakes.

As an extra bonus, the extension has also led to Belles Tea Rooms advertising for additional staff.
