There were celebrations on the double for North East Runners athlete Brian Lynch on Sunday when he not only clinched the over 60s 1,500 metres title at the World Indoor Indoor Championships in Budapest but also set a new world record in the process.

Brian finished in a time of 4:26,72 to better the record time of 4:27,27 he had set in Athlone recently, which had knocked eight seconds off the previous record.

Well done to Brian on a tremendous feat.
