Number of break-ins in Dundalk over the Bank Holiday weekend

There were a number of break-ins to houses throughout Dundalk at the weekend with up to a dozen being reported on Saturday night.

Areas targeted included Ashbrook, Woodbury Gardens, Garrybawn and Lennonstown Manor.

It is also reported that one of the homes broken into had been burgled for the third time.

Anyone with information on any of the incidents is asked to contact Dundalk Gardaí while neighbours are encouraged to keep an eye out for suspicious activity in their area.

Meanwhile, one person was hospitalised with minor injuries following a road traffic accident involving four vehicles at the Xerox junction on Sunday night.

Dundalk Fire Service busy overnight

Dundalk Fire Service were busy overnight after being called to deal with two incidents in the Tom Bellew Avenue area of the town.

They firstly dealt with a car that was on fire in the Woodbury Gardens area before dealing with a house fire in the Ashbrook area around 6.30am.

The house was smoke damaged during the blaze but was unoccupied at the time so fortunately there were no injuries reported.

Beware of men selling lines door to door

Thanks to Tom Quigley for alerting us yesterday about two men who were reportedly selling bogus lines while casing houses in the Ashbrook area.

According to Tom, a handbag was reportedly stolen from one of the houses.

He believes they may have moved on to the Avenue Road or Tom Bellew Road areas but either way it’s something to be vigilant of in the coming days and weeks.
