A lorry has veered off the road on one of the diversion routes in play due to the ongoing roadworks on the N53 Dundalk to Castleblayney Road.

The articulated truck is well into the ditch between Annavackey to Inniskeen and is likely to require major assistance to get out.

The incident happened shortly before midday and the road is passable at present although motorists are advised to proceed with caution.

Delays are expected in the area later when assistance arrives.

The N53 closed last month between Barronstown and Hackballscross and will remain closed until November.
