Local boxer Amy Broadhurst advanced to the quarter-finals in the AIBA World Women’s Youth and Junior Championships in Albena in Bulgaria yesterday.

The Dundalk southpaw, who is the current European and EU Junior champion, was involved in an edge-of-the-seat contest with Turkey’s Urguya Us.

The first two rounds were fairly even, but Broadhurst pulled out all the stops in the third to book her ticket into the last eight where she’ll meet Jajaira Gonzalez of the USA on Wednesday.

“Over the moon! Won my fight against Turkey!! Very tough fight but into the quarters on Wednesday. Fighting USA!! If I win I’m into the medals!,” said Broadhurst on Facebook.
