The road closed in August and is due to reopen on November 23rd.

Cllr Mark Dearey

Calls have been made for more payment options to be made available to those parking in Dundalk.

Speaking at the monthly meeting of Louth County Council on Monday, Cllr Mark Dearey said people were being turned off coming into the town centre by the current coin system.

He proposed for tenders to be issued for smart pay-parking meters which would make it easier for people to pay using the likes of debit/credit cards, PayPal, parking by text or parking by tag.

Louth County Council’s Paddy Donnelly said the local authority was currently upgrading the handheld units used by traffic wardens and would then be looking to replace pay-parking machines across the county.

In a written reply, he said: “The provision of payment options using contactless and chip and pin devices for credit/debit cards will be a requirement considered. Smart payment options will also be evaluated/costed as part of this process and will be provided if financially viable.”

Coes Road West will be the new address for all buildings on the town side of the Inner Relief Road such as Lally’s Superstore, Daly Brothers, Anord and FastFix.
