Motor stalls

licence front [1]The local motor tax offices in Dundalk and Drogheda are set to close for a combined total of EIGHT days over the next few weeks due to staff shortages in the local council.

A backlog of applications for the new plastic card driving licences that were introduced in January has emerged and the local authority has decided to close the tax offices two days a week for four weeks in order to help clear it.

The question remains, however, just how many people would have applied for the new licence in the space of less than two months – especially as it costs those with existing licences €55.

The motor tax offices will be closed on the following dates:

Tuesday 23rd April 2013 and Wednesday April 24th

Tuesday 14th May 2013 and Wednesday 15th May

Tuesday 21st May and Wednesday 22nd May

Tuesday 28th May and Wednesday 29th May

There will also be restricted handling of telephone calls during these periods.

Well ain’t that a kick in the head…

oconnellkickLeinster winger David Kearney, who hails from Carlingford, left Thomond Park on a stretcher on Saturday night after receiving a vicious kick in the head from Munster’s Paul O’Connell. David, the younger brother of Irish star Rob, spent the night in hospital but was released on Sunday.

The 23-year-old will miss a few weeks of action as a result of the concussion he picked up from the blow but was quick to reassure his Twitter followers that he was okay on Sunday, saying: “Thanks 2 everybody for their kind msgs of concern! Feeling a lot better today. Grt 2 get the win down in Thomond. Serious support as per usual!”
